“We are pleased the review has acknowledged the curriculum needs to benefit all pupils, including those with SEND. Improving mainstream inclusion is vital in reforming the SEND system.

Commenting on the Government's response to the Curriculum and Assessment Review, Cllr Amanda Hopgood, Chair of the Local Government Association’s Children, Young People and Families Committee, said:
“We are pleased the review has acknowledged the curriculum needs to benefit all pupils, including those with SEND. Improving mainstream inclusion is vital in reforming the SEND system.
“It is good extending compulsory citizenship into primary schools will mean children will be taught about democracy, which the LGA has been calling for.
“We also support a focus on arts, music and sport, which will boost the wellbeing and attainment of young people, as well as supporting a pipeline of future talent for the creative industries – one of our fastest growing sectors.”
