Today, the Home Affairs Committee have released their report into funding for tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG), which the LGA gave evidence to. Cllr Heather Kidd, Chair of the LGA's SSCB, said “Councils are deeply committed to tackling violence against women and girls, domestic abuse and sexual violence."

“Councils across the country are deeply invested in and vital to the success of English devolution."

“This is tragic news and our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the child who sadly died.

This survey starkly shows councils are caught in the impossible position of having to choose between meeting people’s complex care needs and supporting other people’s wellbeing to prevent their needs from escalating. In this situation, councils cannot deliver the Government’s ambition to shift care from hospital to community without sustainable funding for adult social care.
