“We endorse the clear recognition of Arts Council England’s vital, ongoing role in supporting local culture alongside councils.

“Local government stands ready to work with government and healthcare providers to help ensure that anyone affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence gets the support they need.

“The proposed changes to the National Planning Policy Framework are some of the most significant we’ve seen, so it is crucial that the views of councils are fully taken into account through this consultation process."

“Councils are working hard to use their finite resources in the best way possible to meet their legal duties to support children and young people with SEND."

While funding levels have risen over the last few years, budget-setting will be another hugely challenging task for many councils again next year.

“While it is encouraging to hear that the majority of children in care say life is getting better, clearly this important report highlights areas of concern, in particular the decline in wellbeing for care leavers.

"Councils are committed to using this funding to improve the lives of local people and tackle the root causes of poor health."

“Councils continually strive to improve the professional lives of everyone in their workforce and it is crucial that local government is involved in the raft of forthcoming secondary legislation which is expected to follow the passing of the Employment Rights Act."
