Cllr Tom Hunt, Chair of the LGA’s Inclusive Growth Committee, said: “These new powers – something the LGA has long called for – will help councils keep pavements clear. 

"Inspections and greater transparency will support improvement in educational standards, the identification and resolution of patterns of concern, and enable greater learning between trusts.”

“We are pleased government has introduced measures so that young people leaving care do not have to pay for prescriptions, as well as dental and eye care.

“We are ready to work with the Government to ensure the national plans for health, the NHS and adult social care are aligned so that people can get the right support, when they need it and into the future.”

While funding levels have risen over the last few years, budget-setting will be another hugely challenging task for many councils again next year.
