Cllr Judith Blake, Chair of the LGA's Children and Young People Board, said: “Today’s announcements are positive steps towards ensuring that all children in care live in good quality homes that meet their needs and help them to thrive."

Fly-tipping is inexcusable. It is not only an eyesore for residents, but a serious public health risk, costing local taxpayers almost £50 million a year to clear up.

“We support the Government’s previous review which concluded that responsibility for public health services rightly belongs with councils, but that there also needs to be much stronger joint commissioning of these services between local government and the NHS."

“Councils, working closely with central government, have put in a monumental effort since the start of the pandemic and the Everyone In initiative to rapidly get the vast majority of people sleeping rough off the streets and into safe and suitable accommodation."

With longer-term certainty of funding and sufficient access to independent expert support, councils can help motorists switch to zero emission vehicles to achieve the Government's 2050 target.
