Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy is the LGA's flagship development programme for councillors in leadership positions. The programme is recognised by The Institute of Leadership and Management, the UK's leading award-winning body for leadership and management.
Leadership Essentials
'Leadership Essentials' is a series of programmes and workshops designed as themed learning opportunities for councillors. Each event concentrates on a specific portfolio area or a specific theme.
Focus on Leadership
The Focus on Leadership series helps councillors in their existing roles and bridging to more senior leadership positions through our flagship weekenders for Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) councillors, LGBTQ+ councillors, opposition leaders and deputy leaders, and young councillors (aged 40 and under).

Training Programmes
We offer a range of in-house training courses on a variety of topics such as member/officer relations, community leadership and chairing skills. These are usually 1.5 - 2-hour sessions delivered in person or remotely and will be tailored to suit the needs of the council.

Boosting Middle Leaders programme
Boosting Middle Leaders is a leadership programme which brings together councillors and officers to build relationships, share perspectives, and develop practices that will help them deliver the best outcomes for their places and communities. The programme, delivered through a blend of online and in-person workshops and residentials, is part of our Leading Edge programme, delivered in collaboration with the Leadership Centre.
Statutory Officers
Working with CIPFA, LLG, and Solace, leadership programmes are tailored to statutory officers. These programmes recognise the complexities that these statutory roles work within, and support officers to increase their impact as strategic leaders and strengthen their ability and confidence in ensuring the good governance and assurance of their council.
