“As part of reforming the SEND system, it is vital that our education system becomes more inclusive, so that more children with SEND can attend their local mainstream school.

Responding to the Government announcing £200 million in a SEND training programme for teachers, Cllr Amanda Hopgood, Chair of the Local Government Association’s Children, Young People and Families Committee, said:
“As part of reforming the SEND system, it is vital that our education system becomes more inclusive, so that more children with SEND can attend their local mainstream school.
“For this to happen we need a workforce that has the capacity and right skills, and this investment will help to support that.
“We look to the Government following this positive announcement up soon with the Schools White Paper, that sets out how the SEND system will be transformed to meet children’s needs more quickly and fix the failings of the current system.”
