Following the LGA General Assembly on Tuesday 7 July 2026, the LGA Green Group will be formally established.  

Like the other political group offices, it will work to shape its policy work as well as parliamentary briefings and press work. It will also work with the LGA to advise on and provide improvement support, mentoring, training, and events with our network of member peers. 

LGA Green Group leadership elections 

The Association of Green Councillors (AGC) will be running elections for the following leadership positions at the LGA:  

  • LGA Green Group Leader, Vice-Chair of the LGA and Director of the LGA  
  • LGA Green Group Deputy Leader 

The timeline for this election will be as follows, as set by the AGC: 

  • 21 May: Nominations for Group Leader open. 
  • 27 May: Nominations for Group Leader close (noon).  
  • 28 May: Voting for Leader begins.   
  • 2 June: Voting for Leader ends and result announced; nominations for Deputy Leader invited, subject to gender balancing.   
  • 5 June: Nominations close and voting begins for Deputy Leader.   
  • 10 June: Voting for Deputy Leader ends and result announced.   
  • 17 June: Leader, Deputy leader, AGC Board and Greens in the previous LGAI Executive meet in London to develop proposals on group governance to present to first group AGM.
