Event recordings 2026
- The best kept secret in local government: Unlocking revenue with location data: This webinar looks at the benefits of using address and street data across services to unlock revenue. Including speakers from Leeds City Council, Surrey Heath District Council and GeoPlace.
- Connecting the dots: Using performance, finance and risk information together to inform decisions, scrutiny and assurance: Guidance on how performance, finance and risk can be managed and reported in an integrated way, with the aim of supporting good decision making as well as better monitoring and oversight.
- Designing and implementing a successful data strategy in local government: How to develop a data strategy, the value of developing a strategy and how to land organisational buy-in. Including speakers from Essex County Council and North Yorkshire Council.

- Data skills, recruitment and retention: The session explored how local authorities can successfully recruit, retain, and develop data professionals, including speakers from Manchester City Council, Camden Council, LOTI and the LGA.
- Improving accessibility in Power BI: Speakers from Norfolk County Council shared their experience of reviewing and enhancing the accessibility of their Power BI reports and dashboards.
- Prevention is better than cure, how data in public health improves lives: Adam Briggs from the NIHR and Oxfordshire County Council, Rebecca Allen & Kathryn Loxton from Suffolk County Council, and Jasjot Saund from London Borough of Lambeth shared their experiences of working with public health data.
- Python in action: Real world data science in local government: William Levack-Payne, PhD from Data to Insight (hosted by East Sussex County Council) and Lisa Poole & Andre Modlitba from Richmond and Wandsworth Councils shared their first hand experiences, the benefits it brought, and lessons learned.
- Suffolk Office of Data & Analytics - A guide to successful data sharing across public services: Catch up on our webinar where the Suffolk Office of Data and Analytics (SODA) shared how they overcome information governance, processes and systems including how they shared record-level data that is identifiable. We also heard how they set up a linked dataset using Splink (an open-source Python package which helps deduplicate and link records without common UIDs) from planning to implementation along with an outline of the process and use cases.
- Co-creating Power BI dashboards within local government: Catch up on our webinar, held in partnership with ONS local, where we hear from Rutland County Council as they share the value of co-creating Power BI dashboards within local government.
- Dashboard design philosophies within local government: Catch up on our webinar, held in partnership with ONS local, where we hear from Rutland County Council as they share their experience with dashboard design philosophies within local government.
- Derby City Council’s journey towards becoming an insight-led organisation: Hear from Derby City Council about their journey towards becoming insight-led, through breaking down data silos and unifying data from multiple sources to create a joined-up view of citizens.
- Natural language processing within councils: Catch up on this webinar with Kirklees and Wiltshire councils for an introduction to natural language processing (NLP), how it works and examples of how it is being used in councils, as well as tips and advice for councils who are just getting started with NLP.

- The value of data maturity assessments in local government: In this webinar, held in partnership with ONS Local, you will hear more about the LGA’s free-to use local government data maturity self-assessment tool as well as hearing from Surrey County Council about their practical experience of the value of undertaking a data maturity assessment.
- The Power BI journey in local authorities: Catch up on our webinar, held in partnership with ONS Local, with Reigate and Banstead and Hertfordshire sharing the benefits of Power BI and practical tips based on their own journey to introduce Power BI.
- Masterclass: Getting started with Power BI: Danny O’Neill from the Birmingham City Observatory guided attendees through how Power BI works and how to get started on building a dashboard using council performance data.
- Developing skills for AI: how and why: This webinar, held in partnership with LARIA, looked at the importance of developing data science skills in local government, featuring presentations from Hackney Council and Cheshire West and Chester Council on practical applications, benefits and training opportunities.
