Distribution of funding to support the reform of the adult social care charging system in 2023 to 2024

The perilous state of adult social care funding, and its serious consequences for people who draw on social care (or may need to do so in the near future), is unquestionable. Recent survey work by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) shows that just 12 per cent of directors are confident that they have the resources required to deliver all of their statutory duties.

Response to Public Sector Audit and Appointments (PSAA) Consultation on the 2022/23 audit fee scale: Opted-in local local government government and police bodies

With so many 2020/21 audits and several 2019/20 audits still incomplete due to the current crisis in local audit, the fees for 2022/23 still have to be set using incomplete information.

Consultation on the 2023/24 Code of Practice on Local Authority Accounting in the United Kingdom: LGA response

In our view, the proposals in the two consultations earlier this year were a valid attempt by CIPFA to alleviate some of the worst of the short-term problems, problems that are both a major aspect of the current crisis and a symptom of the long-term problems. It is therefore disappointing that it has not yet been possible to finalise a satisfactory outcome in response to those proposals.

LGA Response: Homelessness Prevention Grant – Technical Consultation, August 2022

The LGA are supportive of a revision to current funding in order to simplify and take into account current housing pressures, but have some concerns about the proposals suggested as they are not necessarily reflective of current strains on homelessness services and will have an extremely adverse effect on London in particular.

Review of Electricity Market Arrangements consultation

The LGA’s Environment, Economy, Housing and Transport Board (EEHT) considers energy supply and distribution to be one of the top three risks to growth, the environment, and the economy. EEHT will be asking representatives of the Distribution Network Operators, National Grid, Ofgem and BEIS to meetings to discuss the role of local government in this once-in-a-lifetime transition.

LGA response: Developing a tourist accommodation scheme in England, 21 September 2022

Councils have been raising concerns about the impact of unregulated growth in the tourist accommodation sector for some time. We welcome Government’s exploration of the issue and urge Government to take meaningful action to rebalance the impacts of this growth industry.
