Empowering people and carers requires hospitals to implement a range of strategies focusing on communication, education, support, and environmental adjustments.

To ensure person-centred optimal mobility care becomes an integral part of all hospital settings, a multi-faceted approach focusing on culture change, strong leadership, and systematic implementation is required.

Ensure standardised assessment tools are implemented across the hospital in every ward and ensure ward staff working across the hospital have the necessary training and support to undertake initial function, mobility and moving and handling assessments.

The High Impact Change Model (HICM) for Optimal Handed Care (OHC) provides a practical framework to embed OHC in different care settings across health and care systems. It aims to ensure that every person receives safe, proportionate, and independence-focused care and support, while reducing workforce strain and maximising system efficiency.
