Dennis Skinner to retire after 22 years of leadership at LGA

Dennis Skinner will retire on 31 December 2025 after 22 years of exceptional leadership within the IDeA and LGA.

The Local Government Association (LGA) today announced that Dennis Skinner will retire on 31 December 2025 after 22 years of exceptional leadership within the IDeA and LGA. 
 
Dennis has played a pivotal role in positioning the LGA as a trusted partner to councils, government, regulators and funders. His commitment to strong political leadership and the value of local government has been unwavering. 
 
The LGA remains fully committed to continuity and stability. Robust plans are in place to ensure a smooth transition and maintain our focus on supporting councils and communities across the country. 
 
Joanna Killian, Chief Executive of the LGA said:
 
"Dennis has been an outstanding leader and colleague. His vision and dedication have shaped the LGA into the trusted organisation it is today. While we will miss him greatly, I am confident in our plans for continuity and the strength of our team moving forward."
