Peer training and induction

We prepare all peers for the role with training that covers:

  • the Corporate Peer Challenge and peer mentoring approaches and methodologies
  • collaborative teamworking, effective questioning and listening skills
  • how to develop practical, evidence‑based recommendations for local authorities
  • we also provide mentoring and peer learning support to help review teams succeed.

Peer mentoring

Drawing on the LGA’s expertise in councillor mentoring, through peer mentoring we pair experienced officer and member peers with those new to the role.

Peer mentoring provides a structured, supportive relationship where experience, knowledge and ideas are exchanged to strengthen a culture of collaboration and improvement.

Our peer mentoring offer is designed for both officer and member peers, whether you’re looking to build your confidence as a new peer or share your expertise to help others succeed.

Help us grow our peer network

Our new peer ambassador toolkit gives you everything you need to spread the word about the benefits of peer work and encourage colleagues to get involved.

Inside you'll find:

  • example social content
  • top tips for advocacy
  • how to demonstrate the positive impact of peer challenge on local authorities and peers.
