Phases 2 and 3 of MHCLG’s Design Code Pathfinder Programme ran between 2022 and 2024. As part of Phase 2 (2022/23) of the Programme, MHCLG worked with 25 areas to support the preparation of local design codes, in line with the process set out in the National Model Design Code. For Phase 3 (2023/24), MHCLG continued to engage with 20 Pathfinder authorities to learn lessons from them about refining and finalising their design codes, implementing and monitoring their codes and the role of digitalisation. Findings from the Programme were produced by Design Council, including a Phase 2 evaluation report, thematic insight pieces, case studies, and editable tools. These provide resources for local authorities to inform the project set-up, development and implementation stages of the design coding process.
